Information about the trial

Treatment

The HUSH trial is trying to find out whether arm function and quality of life in patients with a humeral shaft fracture is better with the cast and brace treatment or with surgery.

Trial Funder

The trial is funded by the Department of Health (NIHR127817) and is the work of Orthopaedic surgeons across the UK, with research support from The University of Oxford.

Trial Sponsor

The University of Oxford is the lead centre and sponsor for this trial

Trial Design

This is a two-phased, multi-centre, prospective, randomised superiority trial.

Phase 1 (internal pilot) will confirm the expected rate of recruitment in a large-scale multi-centre randomised controlled trial.

Phase 2 (main trial) will be the proposed randomised controlled trial in a minimum of 24 UK centres.

Personal Data

Personal details will be held by the research team at the University of Oxford. All information that is collected during the course of the research will be used and stored in accordance with the most up to date data protection legislation

Things to know

There is currently little evidence to support clinicians in their management choices when treating these fractures.
